       Our Programs

Kids (18 months-2.5 years old)

Family and Me (Class No. K001) Suggested Age: 18 months - 2.5 years old

This course introduces toddlers, young children, and their parents to Chinese language and culture in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Parents or other family members can participate in their children’s learning experience. Activities include games, songs, dances, stories, crafts, etc. Activities are focused on learning for retention of the tones and basic Chinese vocabulary. Family members do not need to have any Chinese language knowledge.

Kids (3 years old to 10 years old)

Caterpillar Class (Class No. K002) Suggested Age: 3 - 5 years old

Early learners do best when they enjoy learning, so our focus in this class is on play. The curriculum for this course brings our students into a fun, low-stress environment in which they play games, create arts and crafts, sing songs, and enjoy Chinese culture in many ways.

Pupa Class (Class No. K003) Suggested Age: 6 - 7 years old

As children grow a little older, they are more capable of acquiring reading and writing skills, so our curriculum and teaching strategies take these goals into consideration. Students learn characters, sentence structure, and grammar, but classes also continue to focus on incorporating fun activities having to do with culture.

Butterfly Class (Class No. K004) Suggested Age: 7 - 10 years old

This class is designed for students who have passed a placement exam or who have fulfilled our Pupa Class. In this course, we focus on the "5C" standards of language acquisition: communication, communities, comparisons, connections, and cultures. Using Chinese folktales, legends, and fables, we help students build their language literacy and explore cultural experiences.

YCT-Youth Chinese Test, from Level 1 to 4 (Class No. K005)

The new YCT test was launched by Hanban in an effort to encourage foreign young students to learn Chinese and improve their Chinese language proficiency. As part of this effort, since 2004 Hanban has organized experts from different disciplines such as Chinese language teaching, linguistics, psychology and educational measurement to work on the program, conducting surveys in order to understand the latest trends in overseas Chinese language teaching and learning.

Teenagers

Chinese 100-Elementary (Class No. T001)

This course is designed for students with little or no background in Mandarin with a focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Throughout the year, we will focus on the basic phonetic system, basic grammar, the writing system, and everyday conversational vocabulary and sentence patterns. Our in-class/online meetings will concentrate on the training of oral and aural skills. Students will maintain face-to-face short conversations with each other on topics such as school life, shopping, transportation, and traveling.

Chinese 200-Intermediate (Class No. T002)

Building upon the fundamentals of Mandarin Chinese studied in the Elementary Chinese, students will also learn more intermediate expressions and more complex structures, and continue to develop greater fluency and competence in four aspects of language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will be introduced to different aspects of the Chinese culture and society, which will lead them to have a cross-cultural understanding of Western and Eastern cultures.

Chinese 300-Intermediate High (Class No. T003)

This course is designed to expose students to more advanced and comprehensive knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. It emphasizes both linguistic capacity and communicative competence. Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and their understanding of grammar and structure. Meanwhile, they will begin to discuss in greater depth on various cultural topics by using more sophisticated sentence patterns and expressions both orally and in written forms. Students will learn to read and write in a variety of styles of written Chinese, such as descriptive, expository, and argumentative.

In this course, the goals for students are:

Ability to understand spoken Mandarin Chinese and identify what is being said in short, spoken dialogues and narratives about everyday topics.

Ability to complete sentences in a way that is appropriate in terms of structure (grammar), vocabulary and context.

Identifying usage that is both structurally correct and contextually appropriate.

Understanding of such points as the main and supporting ideas, themes and setting of a passage. Some of the passages are based on real-life materials such as timetables, forms, advertisements, notes, letters, diaries and newspaper articles.

AP Chinese (Class No. T005)

This course explores modern and contemporary Chinese literature, culture, and society through intensive and extensive reading of the textbook and the Chinese newspapers. In addition to issues related to literature, we will also discuss cultural, social, and economic changes in contemporary Chinese society through newspapers and films. Students are expected to work hard and expand their vocabulary and further develop skills in listening, speaking, reading comprehension, and writing. The emphasis is on rapid reading, reinforced by conversations and compositions. Students will continue to learn new grammatical points, but more importantly, this course aims at a consistent development of knowledge and proficiency about the Chinese language and culture.

Test Preparation Classes

In these classes, we will help students prepare for the exam they choose to take, including the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test, from Level 1 to 6), the SAT Chinese Subject Test, AP Chinese Test, etc.

Adult

Introductory Chinese

This course is designed for adult learners who have little or no experience with Chinese, but who are interested in trying it out. Our focus in Introductory Chinese is on gaining broad knowledge in a number of areas — pronunciation (Pinyin), characters, conversation, and grammar. Through this course, students will also experience some aspects of Chinese culture — folk tales, festivals, and activities.

Business Chinese

This course is designed for people who are interested in learning how to communicate with businesses in China. We will teach you the basics of conversation — greetings, etiquette, ordering meals, booking hotels, etc. Included in this course are lessons in how to behave with potential clients and business partners.

Survival and Travel Chinese

This course is designed for people who are planning to travel to China who want to know enough Chinese to survive and have fun. Topics will include booking hotels and flights, taking taxis and public transportation, ordering meals, reading maps and signs, etc. Some attention will also be given to current Chinese popular culture to help travelers enjoy their trip more fully.

HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test, from Level 1 to 6)

HSK certificates confirm mastery of Chinese language skills, respective to the amount of instruction received. The test is quickly becoming an important measure of Chinese proficiency in education and job recruiting, where language competency is a great asset. Minimum HSK proficiency is a prerequisite when applying to educational institutions in China. In addition, those who have passed the HSK test at any level are exempt from corresponding coursework at national colleges and universities. Certificates are permanently valid, with the exception of enrollment into educational institutions, where scores are valid for up to two years from the date of examination.

To sign up the class, please email us the class you are interested in, and we will get back to ASAP.
